WVNA – Women Veterans Network Australia

Connecting past and present Women of Defence with resources,
support & information to live an empowered & fulfilling life.

As a result of the RSL-funded Women Veterans Symposium held in Brisbane in July 2015, the WVNA – Women Veterans Network Australia was initially established as a community Facebook page. This step reflected the desire expressed by women at the symposium to connect with other women veterans and share relevant information.
WVNA is inclusive of all ranks who served in the Navy, Army or Air Force who have served either in a full time or Reserve capacity, regardless of whether they have been deployed or not.
We encourage people to please LIKE & SHARE the WVNA – Women Veterans Network Australia page https://www.facebook.com/womensveteransassn as a resource for general information and posts of interest to women veterans.
WVNA has also established a network of Closed Facebook groups as an efficient means for women veterans to join and make connections via social media in various regions around Australia. All women veterans are welcome to join and connect with others who live in the area to support each other.
Currently WVN groups have been activated in the following locations:
Albury Wodonga
Alice Springs
Gold Coast and Northern Rivers
Newcastle – Hunter Valley
South Coast NSW
Sunshine Coast
Wagga Wagga
Wide Bay – Burnett

To find the relevant group on Facebook; enter “Women Veterans Network” followed by the “Region” eg Women Veterans Network Brisbane.
More recently the WOMEN VETERANS NETWORK AUSTRALIA FORUM Closed Facebook group was created to share the conversation among women veterans nationally.
Anyone on Facebook can find a Closed group and see who’s in it. Only members can see posts. Please encourage women veterans known to your organisation to FOLLOW our page and JOIN a group to share information and connect with others. We are more than happy to discuss requests to create new groups if an area is not yet represented.

  1. This site is important for stacks of reasons. One of these is the commencement of a to be newly named Health Peer Education Group formerly termed Men’s HPE Group. The gender is to go and the group will be more inclusive now we have at least 12% women members in the Army.
So what? Figures released this last week in the USA (not our own) show the incidence of suicide amongst females who have served in the military is six times higher than those women who have never served. I know this is another country but that figure cannot be ignored and we must not let anything similar appear here. So education and mental fitness remains important foe everyone, not just the idle male.
